The Viceroy Documentary

The Viceroy Documentary reflects on the life and political career of George Nathaniel Curzon, Viceroy of India from 1898 to 1905.

George Nathaniel Curzon, the eldest son of Baron Curzon, was born on 11th January, 1859.

At Eton College he was a brilliant student and won a record number of academic prizes before entering Oxford University in 1878. Curzon was elected president of the Oxford Union in 1880 and although he failed to achieve a first he was made a fellow of All Souls College in 1883.

In November 1891, The Marquis of Salisbury appointed Curzon as his Secretary of State for India. Curzon lost office when The Earl of Rosebery formed a Liberal Government in 1894. 

After the 1895 General Election the Conservative Party regained power and Curzon was rewarded with the post of Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

Three years later the Marquis of Salisbury granted him the title Baron Curzon of Kedleston and appointed him Viceroy of India. Following the completion of his term as Viceroy in 1905, Curzon returned to England and despite failed aspirations to become Prime Minister he continued as British Foreign Secretary and was Chairman of MI5 the British Security Service and the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6).

The first synopsis and working screenplay for The Viceroy was written in Pakistan by Saira Ali in 2003.

The Viceroy, a made for television documentary is now in pre production planning and is due for release in 2015.
